Greetings out there. It’s Shira Savada, the Real Weddings Editor of Martha Stewart Weddings with a guest post. I’ve worked at the magazine for just shy of six years and I’ve known Alison and her team for nearly as long. Over the years it’s been such a pleasure to see the super stellar events they put together. So I figure that’s worth a bit of a celebration and retrospective. And without further ado, my top five details (in no particular order because they all deserve top billing) dreamed up by Alison Events and featured by Martha Stewart Weddings.

1. Creative Chair Choices
I think Alison Events’ weddings were the first weddings I remember seeing that really celebrated that you don’t need all of your chairs to match. At Laura and Justin’s wedding in Carmel, natural bentwood chairs were set around the tables — except the newlyweds’ were treated to a pair of bold yellow seats.
Bonus points for the grand piano in the middle of a clearing in the middle of a forest. Seriously? Amazing.

2. A Warm Welcome
Having a winter wedding? Consider serving them hot cocoa and apple cider in custom printed coffee cup sleeves. It was perfect for Jodi and Jon’s nuptials in Sundance, Utah.

3. A Dab of DIY
Alison Events always finds new ways to celebrate in Mexico. At Olivia and Peter’s fiesta in Tulum, wood maracas were placed atop napkins in the groom’s favorite color. To add a bit of panache to the centerpieces, the glass bottles were dipped in white paint and wrapped with twine.

4. Dreamy Decor
Lauren and Darrin’s Calistoga celebration was totally dreamy. A range of muted pastels made the overall tone soft, but with details like opalescent chargers, blush-on-grey calligraphed escort cards, and delicate runners, it was anything but dull.

5. Local Loot
The Alison Events masterminds love a good welcome bag. I don’t blame them. Guests love getting goodies and it’s not only a way of showcasing the couple’s personalities but as in this case, celebration the location. At Dana and Quinn’s destination wedding in Virginia, everyone got local wine (with a bottle opener of course), a “Virginia is for Lovers” pen, a small notebook, waters, nuts, a homemade cookie, and headache medicine. What else could you need?
